What requirements do I need to meet to apply?
To apply to Impact Australia you must be:
- 18 years or older
- Any Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia who is currently living in Australia and able to prove their previous 6 months of residency there
- Able to relocate to Melbourne for eight consecutive weeks from September to October and return after a one-week break for Pitch Day
We encourage writers from all backgrounds and experiences to apply: from beginner writer to seasoned professional.
I have accessibility requirements and/or need assistance – will I be able to attend Impact?
Yes. Impact will work with any Creators needing assistance to ensure their ability to participate in the program.
Are Creators paid?
Yes. Each Creator or Creative Team will be given a stipend for living expenses to make it possible for them to focus as much as possible on delivering their project in its most polished form. Writing teams will share their stipend. Individuals based more than 80km from Melbourne will receive an additional stipend to use for finding housing and any relocation expenses.
If I participate in the program, will Impact own my project?
No, Impact Creators retain creative control and ownership of their projects. If a Creator sells their project, Impact receives a percentage of the sale to fund future programs, fees payable out of the budget should it go into production, and a passive position in the backend to share success along with the Creator should it make it onscreen.
Those who complete the program also enter into a one-year first look deal with Impact. Applicants offered a spot in the program will be given a contract to review which fully details all of these terms. Creators need to understand and be comfortable with these terms and should consider discussing them with their own legal counsel (there are community law centres in Australia that provide free or low cost legal advice to artists). Applicants are not bound by any of these terms until they have read and specifically agreed to them ahead of starting the program.
Will someone buy my project at the end?
We cannot guarantee that your project will be bought at the end of the program, but completing Impact intends to set you up for further success as you continue your career in the industry.
In addition, the first-look deal with Impact gives Creators the ability to submit and receive feedback on their future projects.
How do I get in?
The first step to gaining entrance to Impact Australia will be to apply via our online application once it is open. After applications and scripts are reviewed, the top 25 candidates will be selected for a Skype interview with the Impact Team. Once interviews are complete, the Impact Team and Shapers will collaborate in choosing the admitted Creators.
